What to expect in a day at CJH

What will my child do during a typical week at CJH?

During a typical week at CJH, campers have the opportunity to enjoy all 7 of our program areas: archery, arts & crafts, nature, ropes course, rock climbing, and the pool. Each pair of sibling cabins (~18 same-aged campers) have a designated slot for their group to experience these main program areas.

During open program times, campers sign up with the program leaders, and attend which ever program they desire, including occasional special programs such as game times, singalongs, and extended hikes.

Each resident session includes a three-day, two-night backpacking trip, during which time each cabin explores a different campsite in the local wilderness.

Campers who have signed up for horseback riding typically go during open program time or rest hour. In the off chance that the only available time for horseback riding is during another program, they have the option to try the program they missed during an open program slot.

For our shortened session 4, open program time is limited in order to ensure that every cabin has the opportunity to attend each program.

Rookies campers:

While our rookies program does not include a backpacking trip, the campers do have the opportunity to sleep out under the stars on Pioneer rock, the best stargazing site at CJH! Rookies also rotate through every age-appropriate programs, and each have the opportunity to practice some independent choice during the limited area pool/arts & crafts party time.

Family camps:

Family camp and alumni weekend participants can expect all the same wonderful program options, but in a primarily open-program based model. Campfires are a fun way to come together as a whole community at the end of each night.

Sample schedule:

Below, you will find a sample schedule based on our 2024 session schedules. Please note that this is just an example schedule, and may not reflect your child's exact experience. Times for activities may vary in practice, particularly on the overnight backpacking trip. The program schedule is an example of what one pair of cabins may experience.
